Grades 1-3
Enlight School proudly offers primary school students book-based / computer base curriculum.
Grades 1-3 is an exciting time where students show great growth socially, academically and spiritually. Our lessons are developed in a way that integrates Language Arts, math, science and social studies and Biblical truth to personalized curriculum. We are helping students to build a solid academic foundation, to learn to love and to learn to care for others.
The Alpha Omega Publications (AOP) and BJU are Enlight’s default curriculum for 1st-grade to 2nd grade students and Ignitia for 3rd Students. This primary support is print-based and computer based.
Curriculum Overviews
Grade 1
Phonics and Reading 1 presents exciting theme lessons that combine phonics, reading, listening, comprehension, creative writing, and grammar. Reading 1 incorporates phonics, English skills, service words, and word families. The course also includes PreCursive handwriting to teach age-appropriate writing skills.
Spelling 1 helps students to learn how to use phonics and generalizations to find the patterns in words so they can begin to use spelling skills to communicatate effectively. Word sorting and word study activities strengthen the student’s understanding of word patterns that are necessary to spell correctly. There are 30 spelling lists for the year with each list containing 10 spelling words.

Math 1 uses manipulatives and real-life experiences to teach place value, addition, subtraction, geometry, time, money, measurements, and fractions–all with engaging themes and characters.
Writing equations, reading graphs, and other concepts are introduced as part of problem-solving skills.

Science 1 lays the foundation for a biblical worldview of science. Students will develop more of a knowledge of God as the Creator as they learn about plants, animals, the human body, earth and space, and light and sound energy. They learn that we study science to understand how nature works so that we can help people and care for the earth.
Students will participate by completing Exploration, Investigation, and STEM activities to reinforce the concepts in each chapter. These activities along with pictures, demonstrations, video footage, and demonstrations enhance learning.

Heritage Studies 1 provides an age-appropriate study of family, community, jobs, land, and the United States, all presented within the framework of God’s redemptive plan. Each of the six units introduces a different field of social studies, giving students a broad foundation for future grades.

Bible 1, using the Worktext A Father’s Care, introduces Bible truths through familiar Bible characters who are presented chronologically in a study of the Old and New Testaments.

Coding – Lunar Loops: Students will participate in a hands-on game introducing the concept of loops. Following the game, they’ll work independently to create their own code program using the loop block.
In first grade music we continue to explore and create the talents that God has given us by moving and making music together. The larger goals include: being able to match musical pitch, tap the beat of songs, and beginning to compose music of our own. Some events include: Pilgrim Thanksgiving, various Elementary concerts,
In 1st grade, students continue developing locomotor and non-locomotor skills. Basic sport skills are introduced and practiced as well. As always, there is a lot of movement and activity during each PE class. We also talk about taking care of the bodies God has given us and being a good classmate.
Grade 2
English 2 emphasizes traditional grammar, such as parts of speech, sentence structure, and mechanics, and provides practice with essential reference skills. The student will learn the step-by-step use of the Writing Process for eight different types of writing assignments, such as a friendly letter, a personal story, instructions, a research report, and more.

Science 2 helps the student to learn to think scientifically. The teacher will demonstrate and explain science concepts, and the student will have the opportunity to take part in activities that reinforce the ideas that he is learning. These hands-on activities will help the student become an active learner and retain what he learns. Among the topics that will be discussed this year are how plants grow, what fossils show us, how light works, how matter changes, and how the body works.

Reading 2 provides phonics instruction for review and multi-level discussion questions to promote critical thinking. Four reading texts provide interesting, developmentally appropriate selections from a variety of genres, such as realistic and historical fiction, fables, folktales, Bible accounts, biography, and drama as well as poetry. The reading selections provide a progression of difficulty in readability. Instruction is provided in phonics, oral reading, literary techniques, and comprehension. The selections are sequenced logically for readability and skill progression to help all students succeed.
Spelling 2 reinforces reliable spelling patterns and introduces common structural generalizations. Weekly journal entries provide a systematic composition experience. Students also learn fundamental dictionary skills and study Bible words. There are 32 Spelling lists with 18-20 words per list.

Bible 2, using the Worktext A Servant’s Heart, encourages students through a chronological study of the Old and New Testaments to live the Bible as well as know the Bible. Lessons include Bible study skills, character traits, and hymn histories. Dramatic segments present heroes of the faith, while application stories show students their need of Christ as Savior and demonstrate ways to apply biblical principles to personal life situations.

Students will use coordinates and coordinate planes to explore the functionality of the Scratch Motion blocks with the goal of animating a sprite to move around a treasure map.
In second grade music we focus especially on integrating music with what we are learning in the classroom. We also take a deeper look at musical notation and how to read and compose on the treble clef staff. We have activities such as the pilgrim dances, Chinese dance, and we are involved in Native American Thanksgiving
In 2nd grade, the basic movement and skills begun in the previous years is continued. More sport specific skills are added, and the activity and participation focus of each PE class continues. Students often leave the gym sweating. We continue to talk about how to take care of our God-given bodies.
Grade 3 Ignitia
English 3 incorporates biblical worldview shaping, standard English conventions, and writing. The course integrates speaking, listening, and viewing activities into the lessons. Lessons present language skills as essential tools for oral and written communication in five areas of life, encouraging students to formulate a biblical worldview of communication in their lives. Communication is important to help us maintain friendships, interact properly with authorities, get work done, celebrate what we enjoy, and connect with people who are different from us.

Math 3 presents an interactive inductive approach using manipulatives to review place value, multiplication, and division, and to introduce common fractions, decimal fractions, graphs, and other concepts. It also provides the student with a variety of activities in estimating and practical problem-solving.

Heritage Studies 3 integrates Bible, citizenship, culture, economics, geography, government, and history. Beginning with Creation and God’s plan for ruling and filling the earth, this course surveys United States history from the time of the early explorers and Native Americans up to the end of the Civil War.

Reading 3 builds on comprehension and critical thinking while expanding literary skills through group activities and discussion. Students are exposed to age appropriate selections from a variety of genres with a progression of difficulty that promotes success for all achievement levels.
Spelling 3 focuses on spelling generalizations, word meanings, proofreading techniques, dictionary skills, and writing activities. Most spelling lists focus on specific vowel sounds and provide hints (clues!) for remembering which letters spell those sounds. Other lists introduce generalizations for how to add suffixes, make contractions, or divide words into syllables.There are 32 Spelling lists with 20-22 words per list.

Bible 3, using the Worktext Following Christ, presents a chronological and thematic study of the Old and New Testaments that teaches students to live the Bible as well as know the Bible. Heroes like John Wesley and Augustine are presented in dramatic segments.
The teacher in the video lessons stresses higher-level thinking skills while encouraging Christlikeness in the lives of students. Application stories teach about choosing friends, being a Christian example, and trusting God.

Each lesson plan is designed to enable students to achieve specific learning outcomes related to course aligned computer science competencies. For example, at the end of this course students will be able to:
- Differentiate between different types of technology.
- Write an algorithm using arrows.
- Demonstrate how to debug an algorithm that does not complete the desired task.
- Create a loop within an algorithm.
- Express the importance of protecting personal information while online.
- Express the importance of being kind to others while online.
Third grade will join a choir, and learning how to play the ukulele. Our classroom set to teach students chords, and melodies to many different songs. Some events include: Ukulele concerts, various elementary concerts, Grandfriends Day, and singing the national anthem at the whitecaps.
In 3rd grade, students practice basic movement skills and sports skills, and are encouraged to work on their fitness levels with class time workouts and participation to take care of the bodies God has given them. More sport-oriented games are played, and teamwork and sportsmanship are emphasized.
